Experts warn of surge in break-and-enters

Criminologist Professor Paul Wilson predicts that not only will the rate of break-ins and theft increase this year, but the tougher economic times could spawn new thieves.
"The evidence is very clear that in a recession property crime goes up," Prof Wilson said.
"When you have some people who are surviving OK (economically) and a lot of people who aren't, you find that property crime goes up."
"I think there will be new offenders and that will coincide with a rise in the unemployment rate."
Crime experts in the insurance industry are urging homeowners and businesses to review their security options.
